In Loving Memory...

My mom died 16 years ago today. It is so difficult to believe that God wanted her that long ago! Mom was only 62 and died of ovarian cancer. She put up a great fight for 7 years, but the last 6 months, after deciding to give up all treatments, were rough. It was hard to watch such a vibrant wife, mom, grandma, and friend suffer.

Mom was my best friend. We loved to get together often and go shopping or just play with the kids. I was fortunate to live only an hour away from her and dad and could hop in the car on a whim and spend the day.

Mom taught me a lot. She taught me about faith and trust in God, how to live with dignity in the face of crisis, what courage is, to treat people with kindess and humanity, and so much more. I regret that my kids will never truly remember mom except through my stories.

My mom's favorite bird was the cardinal. This morning I went on a quick bike ride and when I pedaled into the driveway a cardinal flew into the birch trees in front of the house. I said, "Hi mom! Great to see you today!" My family says my mom was female and that she couldn't have possibly be the male cardinal! LOL...I say the RED MALE was her FAVE...so it reminds me of her so BE QUIET!!! ;o)

Probably the best testament to mom is when my DH tells perfect strangers that he doesn't get people who tell mother-in-law jokes because he had the most AMAZING MIL anyone could ask for and that he loved her a lot! Every time he says that I get tears in my eyes and swell with pride!!!

There is SOOOOOOOOOOOO very much more I could say, but my mom was a simple, loving, and kind woman. This post needs to be simple...just like mom!!!

Again, another quilt where the pattern and color choices blew me away! LOVE IT!!!

If you look closely at the red flowers you can see the dimension.

I just love these blocks (mental block on the type of block this is) but can never get them to lie flat. GRRRRRRR

MQS quilt show...OR...

QUILTS I LOVE BUT WILL NEVER EVER MAKE!!!! LOL I spent a few hours at MQS here in Overland Park. As always there were some stunning quilts. I bought a template from Circle Lord, some thread from Superior Thread, and clamps for the longarm from The Calico Kitten.

Then I enjoyed looking at phenemonal quilts and quilting! Here are the ones that I said "I LOVED but would NEVER EVER MAKE"!!! LOL


This was one of 2 "Best of Show" quilts. It has a TON of TINY pieces...I would NEVER have the patience to do it but it was stunning to look at! (click on all images for more details)

Here is the 2nd "Best of Show" quilt. This quilt is STUNNING!!! It is by Renae Hadadin. I am not sure if you can see the different colored "cables" running through this or not. It is STUNNING!!!

BABY UPDATE

Dan just got home from the firestation. Here is the update as he gave it to me:

Update on the baby: he has a very low white blood count and they are probably going to do a blood transfusion. Dan said they will know Friday if he will make it or not. The quilt is hanging on the end of his NICU bassinet. I was told by Dan to say "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU" for the comfort it brought. Everyone who goes to see the little guy sees it. It also brings Craig's firefighting family to him there. I got tears in my eyes while Dan was telling me that!!! As far as the brain damage...they won't know for awhile if the baby survives.

Please keep this family in your prayers! I know that everyone appreciates it.

PRAYERS NEEDED...

EDITED MONDAY MORNING: Dan just got home from the fire station and the outlook for the little guy is grim. Another fireman talked to Craig (the firefighter dad of the little guy) and it is pretty grim. They don't expect the little guy to live and if he does he will be severely brain damaged. *sigh* prayers that God wraps his arms around this littly guy and his family.

If you read my blog from today's "Mother's Day" post you know about the fireman's little 4 month old son who is in ICU with meningitis. IT IS NOT GOOD...Dan called me tonight and said that the little guy is probably not going to make it. This makes me so very sad...it is the couple's 3rd child and it certainly isn't news anyone wants to hear...much less a mother on Mother's Day. Please keep this family in your prayers as this will likely be rough times. I hope that the little guy is covered with the firefighting quilt. I will have to make sure that the wallhanging that I make for this station is VERY different from the others...I don't want it to bring back bad/sad memories for this fireman.

Friday was my birthday, the 19th anniversary of my 29th birthday to be exact! *You do the math!!!* LOL My youngest had to work on Friday and also on Sunday so we chose to celebrate the bday and mother's day on Saturday! YEP...my dd was going to make fajitas and my oldest DS was going to make guacamole and margaritas! YUMMY!!!!

I FINALLY got to open gifts! YIPPEEEEE!!!! This bag was HUGE but where oh where was the present???? AHA...a card labeled "WOW"...oh wait, it says "MOM"!!! LOL It was a donation to Susan G Koemen Foundation in my honor from DD! What a COOL gift idea!!!

Here is a picture of the goods! Roses, yankee candles, a movie, a certificate for a bike, gift certificate to Big Horn Quilts, the SGK donation, and a CD...all in all a great day!!!

The only bummer was the phone I got from my youngest DS. He ignored 3 pages from the fire station yesterday. They were in need of someone to work at 3PM until 8AM this morning. He ignored the pages because of the celebration we had planned. He couldn't ignore a personal page from Captain Larrison though so Dan called me and asked if I would mind if he went into work. It seems no one had responded to the pages and they were in a rough spot. Dan is only part time and wants to be hired on full time when a spot opens up. Of course I told him to go...it is his passion and I would miss him. He called later and said he was sorry to be missing things and he was called in because a firefighter was called to the hospital cuz his 4 month old son was sick. I told DS he was where he belonged! Later Dan called me and asked if I would mind if the wall hanging that I made for the station could be given to the baby, it seems the little guy is in ICU with meningitis. OH DEAR...of course the wallhanging can be given to the little guy. I can make another wallhanging and I said I would say some prayers that all is OK.

...the evening ended with a game of cards and the traditional birthday hugs!!

NOW...I can't let Mother's Day slip by without honoring my mom! My Mom has been gone for almost 16 years and I still miss her a TON! She was a classy woman with high values and morals. She taught me to love life and treat people with respect! She was my best friend!!! I LOVE YOU MOM!!!! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!

I also have to mention my MIL! She's a great lady as well! I am blessed with having married into a FABULOUS family that I love and they love me! My in-laws gave me one of the best gifts in my life...my DH!!! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MIL!!!!

Today was a great day! Our POOL was OPENED!!! WOOHOO!!! I am always shocked by the color of the water when the pool is opened! It always takes care of itself though!

I wouldn't want to swim in THIS water...would you???

Here is the final product of Jesse's work! Thanks Jesse! I appreciate the work you do so that I can just ENJOY the pool every summer! YOU ROCK!!

I think summer is coming soon!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH...I wonder how long it'll be before the mallards show up thinking this pool is THEIR home! ;o)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HONEY!!!

Today is the love of my life's 53rd birthday! Steve was such a surprise in my life. 26+ years ago I would have NEVER believed to be married to him. Let me explain...

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back when I moved to a new middle school, I became best friends with Donna (dh's sister). Over the course of the years we played in the band together, went to the mall shopping, we went to movies, and all the stuff girlfriends do together!! When we were juniors in HS Donna wanted to ask Dave (a senior) to the "turnabout dance"...the one where girls ask the guy to the dance! She did NOT have the nerve to do it so one day I grabbed the pay phone in school and dialed Dave's home phone number cuz we knew he was home. I asked for him and handed the phone to Donna...who I might add was PETRIFIED! LOLOLOL...well, she asked him to the dance and from there a seed of love was planted! Donna and Dave got married on June 19th, 1981 and have been married ever since. (their son's wedding is in the previous post)

At Donna and Dave's wedding, it was almost midnight and the dance was almost over. I was sitting at a table with a friend when Steve started walking towards us. Mary (my friend) said he's gonna ask you to dance. I said, nope, he's gonna ask YOU to dance. She said I ain't dancing with him. I said I ain't dancing with him! Well, Steve asked me to dance and how could I say no? That would be rude! SO...I danced with him! And as I tell the story, we've been dancing ever since!

Steve and I hit it off so well...we talked for hours and knew our values, morals, and faith were the same. We were married a year later and I am thankful that God put Steve in my life.

Happy Birthday Hon!!! I hope you have a super day!!! You deserve it!!!

What fun weekend!!!

My SIL's son got married this weekend in MN. It was an AWESOME time!!! We now have 2 weddings out of 4 done! #3 is in August and #4 is in November! WHEW...it sure is fun but exhausting!!! Here are a few pics from the weekend!!!

This is Steve and his mom and dad. Isn't his dad looking great after triple by-pass surgery 3 weeks ago??? We were so THRILLED that he could make it!

Here is Jacob...the most AWESOMEST (I know it's not a word but it describes Jacob perfectly!) nephew EVER! He was the ring bearer and did an AWESOMEST job! LOL
